What we're about

Carolina Aging Alliance (formerly SAGE Central North Carolina) is a program established to advocate for and reach out to older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer people, age 50 and older. Younger members and allies of LGBTQ+ people who are interested in interacting with our members are welcome to join with us in our activities. Our mission is to provide expanded options for social engagement and reduce social isolation as well as provide education to our members and to the larger community, and to advocate for sensitive and affirming services for aging LGBTQ+ people. We are a partner of SAGE USA, which has been dedicated to serving the senior members of the LGBTQ+ communities for 40 years, and we are a member of the Equity & Justice Coalition NC, located at 4 North Blount Street, Raleigh NC.

Walk 'n Talk Wednesdays & Sundays

1400 W Millbrook Rd

The eagles are nesting, the eagles are nesting! For the months of February & March we will be returning to one of our favorite venues, Shelley Lake Park. Use 1400 West Millbrook Road, Raleigh as your GPS address.
Make sure you use the entrance that's marked "Shelley Lake - Sertoma Arts Center"
and not the smaller annex parking lot. We will meet at the trailhead near the arts center entrance. We start walking at 10:00.

The February dates are Wednesday February 1, 8, 15, 22 and Sunday February 5, 12, 19, 26. The March dates are Wednesday, March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and Sunday, March 5, 12, 19, 26.

Our post walk coffee-location (rain or shine) will be at New World Cafe, 4112 Pleasant Valley Road, Raleigh.

Text Todd at[masked] if there are any questions. Note that Todd will not be available 2/23-3/18.

If we have inclement weather, we will walk indoors at the Crabtree Valley Mall. We will meet at 10:00 in the Food Court near McDonald's. Since we will be walking indoors, you may want to consider wearing a facemask. Regardless of our walking location, bring water to stay hydrated.

Caregiver Support Group

Online event

As part of its caregivers’ support programming SAGE is now hosting a Caregiver Support Group on Zoom on the first and third Sunday of each month, 5-6 PM. If you are a personal or professional caregiver, please join us.

SAGE is offering this group to provide a non-judgmental framework for caregivers to find understanding and support. The group will provide, in an informal setting, a safe place to give voice to stressful experiences, successes, strong feelings, personal frustrations, and to explore options and solutions. All sessions will be self-led without a facilitator.

Register here to receive the Zoom link.

Coffee and Conversation

4 N Blount St

Carolina Aging Alliance is hosting a Coffee and Conversation Discussion Group at 4 North Blount Street, Raleigh, every Tuesday morning. Some weeks will be open conversation chosen by those present. Other weeks we will have planned discussion topics.

Come by for a beverage, light refreshments, and great conversation. See old friends and make new friends. This gathering is open to all.
If your time allows, please plan to join some of the crowd for lunch at a restaurant nearby.

Note: Parking may be available in the lot, but do not park in any of the spaces reserved for ALS. Free parking is also available on New Bern Avenue immediately south of the building as well as Blount Street north of the building. Parking on Blount Street south of the building is metered parking.

Walk on the West Side (of the Triangle)

Historic Occoneechee Speedway Trailhead

We’ll walk the easy trail along the river through downtown Hillsborough to Gold Park (about 45 minutes one way - under 2 miles). We’ll return to a dining establishment in downtown Hillsborough for optional lunch or coffee and return to the starting point. Length of the walk can be adjusted, based on those who attend.
If you have questions or need more info, text Todd at[masked] or email him at: [masked].

Please note: In light of the fact that most people have been fully vaccinated - meaning 3 jabs - from now on our policy with regard to Covid is that all people taking part in the walks need to be fully vaccinated. We believe this to be the safest course of action in light of yet another Covid variant popping up. We won't be the vaccination police, but we would hope that anyone who is not fully vaccinated will be honest and choose not to walk or have coffee with the group.
