What we’re about
A warm welcome to CARPE DIEM Nature and Culture adventures!
🌍✨ Hike. Explore. Connect ✨🌍
This is a Meet Up group where nature and culture connects, for everyone interested in guided hiking or/and cycling trips, as well as a variety of outdoor activities like kayaking in the summer, urban city walks, museum visits, movie nights, drinks and dinner gatherings, board games evenings, parties, and weekend getaways both in the Netherlands and abroad.
At Carpe Diem, gezelligheid (a warm, social atmosphere) and good vibes are always a priority. Each event is thoughtfully crafted with care, creativity, and attention to detail, designed for small, friendly groups of 6 to 20 people—far from massive crowds. This approach not only provides a more personal, exclusive, and enjoyable experience for everyone but also allows us to connect more meaningfully with each other. Additionally, by keeping our groups small, we minimize our impact on nature and wildlife, ensuring a more respectful interaction with the environment.
I do focus and I am keen on making unique and exclusive routes that take you off the beaten path. Our carefully designed hikes might be inspired by long distance routes and others, but are often a mix with own creativity. We aim to reveal hidden gems and immerse you in the beauty and culture of the area, providing a distinctive experience far from the typical hiking trails like NS routes.
Many of you have busy schedules and limited time. That’s why we take care of all the planning and details for our events and trips, allowing you to focus on enjoying the experience.
I kindly ask all members to include your first name and upload a recognisable personal picture. This helps foster a sense of community and avoids anonymity, making it easier for us to engage and creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
🍽🥣☕🥧🍲🍹🍻
With Carpe Diem Meet Ups, I always try to find cozy restaurants to indulge ourselves with a heartwarming break during the walk. Especially in autumn and winter, I prefer to have a nice break in a warm place with hot drinks and good food, rather than a picnic outside in the cold. 😃
Our attendees, predominantly singles from diverse backgrounds, come from all corners of the country and beyond. Our international groups typically include expats, immigrants, tourists, and locals, creating a rich mix of cultures and ages. You'll find a welcoming mix of regulars and newcomers at every event!
Feel free to bring a guest by signing up +1, as long as you both engage with the group.
I look forward to exploring nature and sharing delightful cultural adventures with all of you. Let’s enjoy great times together!

This keeps everything running smoothly, providing great experiences for all! Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
- Payment: Also, please complete your payment directly at the time of registration. This helps me avoid losing time with reminders and allows me to keep a clear overview of my administration, ensuring payments match RSVPs promptly, so I can focus on developing more events and trips.

Hi, I’m Djamila! I’m half Dutch, half Algerian, and I live in Gouda with my two cats, León and Luna. Alongside organizing and hosting MeetUp events, I am working part-time as a Dutch language teacher NT2, offering both group and private courses. Fluent in Dutch, French (my mother tongue), English, Spanish, and Arabic, I love connecting through language and often practice or exchange languages during events. I have a particular fondness for Spanish and Latin culture.
With nearly 20 years of experience organising hikes, trips, and group events, and as a loca, I know almost every corner of the Netherlands. I’m excited about sharing the beauty of my country and beyond. Come along and let’s create unforgettable adventures together!

Duno is an 18th century landscape park and consists of hillside forests and dry valleys on the high southern edge of the Arnhem lateral moraine, which descends steeply to the flood plains where the Rhine ends. It is unique in high low, wet dry contrasts. We will hike with gorgeous views of the south-facing mountain, flood plains and forest with several streams.

- Jungle swamp hike to the gorgeous moist fields & Rhoon castle estates! (15 km)Metrostation Rhoon, Rhoon€5.00
Important! To sign up, please pay the € 5,50 Meet Up event fee directly (See notifications for tickie). From 9 May the fee will be € 6,95.
This is a topper of and incredible rich nature, it's a stunning and varied -+ 15 km hike to the gorgeous moist fields & Rhoon castle estates in the south of Rotterdam. Here it is peaceful and quite, you wouldn't say to be so close to the bustling city!
A bit different and better version than last year, this time a round walk passing by the moist fields along the river and estates.Gathering 11:00 @ metro station Rhoon (20 minutes by metro from train station NS Rotterdam CS) in front of the ticket machine. We start the hike here short after meeting and greeting. It is a circular hike and it ends at the same place.
The route goes through the old Maas river, and narrow winding paths and wooden bridges through the unique nature reserve of the Rhoonse Grienden (moist fields). In between, the willow jungle of Klein Profijt, domain of beavers and kingfishers, awaits us. In early spring, the willow paths are lined with wild flowers like the precious yellow tidal plant 'spider dotter' and sometimes the bellflower, which provide us a nice color spectacle, we certainly will also enjoy the birds giving us a free concert.
Castle of Rhoon and its beautiful estates
First, we will pass by the castle of Rhoon with its beautiful English Baroque gardens and the castle forest.Dikes and polder landscape
After that, the first part goes through grass dikes with polder landscape passing by a mill and typical countryside farms.Rhoonse grienden
The Rhoonse Grienden form a unique nature reserve in South Holland. These are moist fields on which willow wood is grown and lie outside the dikes. It is an exciting swamp jungle forest where we wil meander through romantic small pollard willows paths with amazing views, it's really worth hiking! In the spring and early summer the flora is exuberant in this tidal area: the romantic willow paths are colored with cow parsley and comfrey and in the banks you often see the yellow tidal flower, the spindotter, and sometimes the summer bellflower.Klein profijt
Small profit is a great pleasure! This protected and precious nature reserve is rough and less cultivated, we will stroll on quays with wild pollard willows and crawl on paths through a floodplain swamp forest, dense and savage willow jungle, intersected by reed beds and rugged grassland, under the influence of ebb and flow. The area owes its name to the salmon fishery which yielded little here: a small profit.
Further on, the jungle opens up and we look out over the wide waters of the Oude Maas river. A narrow riverbank path accompanies us along the slow-flowing river, with herons scratching on the shore and swans bobbing on the water. The area also has the only duck decoy outside the dikes in our country! We will pass several restaurants where we can have a break in one of them:
