Hiking camping weekend Berdorf: 'little Zwitzerland' in fairytale Müllerthal!

This is a 4 days hiking weekend in Luxembourg's 'Little Switzerland' in of Berdorf, in the fairytal Müllerthal valley with its spectacular rock corridors and caves, picturesque wooded valleys with mossy creeks, idyllic waterfalls, and great views!
A paradise for hiking in autumn colors, with a cultural twist visiting the historic town of Echternach and the medieval Beaufort castle.
We will hike through dark beech forests, meadow landscapes along streams, passing narrow gorges and fascinating sandstone formations and ruins.

*The trip starts Friday 14:00 till Monday 15:00. Berdorf is 335 km from Utrecht (3 h 45 min by car).

Accommodation
We are staying in 4 cozy and comfortable wooden hiking cabines/pods (2 persons a pod) and 1 safari lodge (4 persons) in a camping in Berdorf in Luxembourg, located at the edge of the forests, with direct access to trails. We will be surrounded by nature to enjoy the outdoors.
The pods are equipped with a table and chairs. The safari tent has 3 bedrooms, a kitchenette and a veranda lounge.

The Müllerthal trail
We will hike parts of this famous long distance trail and others, one of the bests in Europe passing to different popular spots: a canyon, bouldres and rock formations, waterfall and lakes. Erosion created some weird patterns in the rocks creating amazing pieces of art.

Program
The hikes are between the 5 and 18 km a day on accessible and marked trails. Between the rocks we walk on spectacular steps with sometimes a few hundred meters in height difference

Friday: round hike lake Echternach -+ 5 km
Gathering -+ 14:00 @ the camping, for checkin and drinks. Afterword we go with 3 to supermarket in Echternach for groceries, Luxembourg’s oldest town 4 km from Berdorf.
We will do a nice short hike around the lake and relax a bit there.
In the evening we will prepare a nice meal together, and sit outside in front of our huts...

Saturday: Hike Wolves’ canyon Berdrof - Echternach and back (9 or 18 km)
Today we hike from our camping to Echternach passing the impressive sand stone formations Gorges du Loup (Wolves canyon).
We can either hike to Echternach 9 km and stay there visiting this historic city and its beautiful Basilica, Roman Villa, Abbey Museum or the medieval city walls (and go back by bus to Berdorf). Other options is to continue the path of the round walk and hike back to Berdorf.
*Dinner: in the evening maybe a nice BBQ and games, music...

Sunday: Round hike Schiessemtumpel waterfall & Kallektuffquell -+ 15,5 km
This is a round walk passing the stunning Schiessemtumpel waterfall, a on the black Ernz river with a lovely stone bridge. Further on we wil reach the beautiful Kallektuffquell, where crystal clear water flows over the rocks into a small basin, with moss in all shades of green.
*Dinner: in a restaurant Bistrot Martbusch on the campsite.

Monday: castle Beaufort + round walk -+ 10km
We will immerse ourself in the history of the medieval Beaufort castle followed by a short hike to enjoy for the last this nature with its impressive boulders hidden in the forest and nice view points.

Price and registration:
The price is Euro 205,- p.p. (Eur 215,- after 1 March) for 3 x overnight, bedlinnen, 3x breakfast + packed lunches, 2x dinner, guided hikes, tourist tax, contribution to the drivers (for driving to hike startpoints etc during the weekend), Meet Up event fee & organization costs.
After the minimum attendees is reached (with sufficient cars), you receive a tickie for payment.

Notifications

• The first people signed up will get the best rooms/beds.
• We walk fast (4 to 5 km/h average), with 2-3 breaks. You should be fit and used to hikes of approximately 15-20 km.
• Minimum attendance: 8 participants. Maximum: 12 participants. Priority may be given to people on the waiting list who have attended my events previously.
• Please wear comfortable waterproof hiking gear, including layers and a raincoat. Also, bring sufficient water and snacks.
• Carpe Diem is an amateur activity group, and participation is at your own risk.
• The hikes might be adapted or shortened in case of bad or rainy weather.
• Please sign up only if you plan to attend and are ready to pay the fee upon registration.
• The event fee is non-refundable, except when the trip is full (12 participants), and there is someone to substitute you. However, the MeetUp and administration fee (€15) will still be charged.
