This is 7 days hiking adventures & more (kayak!) week in the beautiful round island La Gomera, which rises like an enormous shell from the Atlantic Ocean. It's said to be the green pearl of the Spanish Canary Islands, only 30 kilometers south of Tenerife.
It's a real hiking island with varied vegetation: fascinating moist cloud forests on the north side and desert on the dry south side. The landscape is grand, with deep gorges, imposing basalt peaks and steep cliffs. The island is also special because of the strange and lush vegetation of hundred-year-old laurel trees, with beard mosses giving the impression of a tropical rainforest.
We will make different hikes excursions across the island, along the coast and the mountains.
*The level of the hikes will be adapted to the group (average).

We will stay in apartments with 2 persons rooms with sea view and a terrace with swimming poo,l at walking distance from the beach in San Sebastian in the north, 1,5 km from Los Cristianos port, where te ferry arrives from Tenerife.

Program
Day 1 WE 28 Feb: arrival at La Gomera via Tenerife airport + 1 hour ferry
Groceries + orientation walk San Sebastians colourful streets/
Casa de Colón/Iglesia Virgen de la Asunción/La Ermita (chapel) + walk to El Faro + volcanic beach and swim?
* Dinner @ La Tasca/La Salamandra/La Hila
Day 2 TH 29 Feb: Hermigua: Banana groves/Monastry/etnography museum + Argulo with Mirador Abrante, cacatus landscape & beach Caleta
Day 3 FR 1 March: Hike excursion with local guide to National Park Garajonay with laurel forests
Day 4 SA 2 March: Hike Valhermoso, village La Rosas + visitor centre NP Garajonay.
Day 5 SU 3 March: other hike around Garajonay NP
Day 6 MO 4 March: Valle Gran Rey (the island's most gorgeous spot!): hike + whale watching or Los Organos boat excursion?

Day 7 TU 5 March: departure, adios La Gomera

Accommodation
We will spend 6 nights in 3 comfortable 2 persons rooms (separate beds, a fully equipped kitchen & living, own bathroom and toilet) in 3 x Chijeré appartments in San Sebastián, with a terrace with outdoor swimming pool and sea view, 15 minute walk to the beach, 1.5 km from the centre and supermarkets and restaurants.

Price and registration
The price is Eur 549,- for 6 nights accommodation in 2 persons room apartments (separate beds), bed linnen, 5 x breakfast, welcome drink, 4 dinners, hiking excursion (with local guide), Meet up Fee & organization costs and more depending if the trip gets fully booked with 12 attendees or not.
You have to pay the Eur 549,- directly when signing up by tickie*.
* Wat to bring: towels, drinks/snacks/games.

The flight + ferry to the island (not lincluded):
- The best is to take a flight to Tenerife South (Sur) Airport (TFS), early in the morning Wednesday 28 February, and late in the afternoon Tuesday 5 March, or Wednesday 6 March and book an extra night on your own in Terneife island.
Recommended direct flight with Transavia (4 hours 45 minutes flight) for Eur 227,- (on 21-11-2023)

Wednesday 6 March: TFS 11:35 - AMS 17:15
- From Tenerife Sur Airport (TFS) you can take a direct frequent bus nr 111 (every half hour) or taxi to the port of Los Cristianos (17 km, travel time approx. 30 minutes), from there walk to the port in -+ 20 minutes, or take a taxi.
- From the port of Los Cristianos, you take the ferry to San Sebastián on La Gomera. Travel time -+ 1 hour.

Notifications:

• We walk 4 km average in hilly landscapes, with 2/3 breaks, you should be fit and used to hiking -+ 15 km hikes.
• Minimum attendance 8. After the minimum of 8 is reached, you will be put in waiting list. Depending on the groups, we can do one girls room and one mixed room.
• I advise to wear comfortable hiking gear with layers and a rain coat, proper hiking shoes, and to bring sufficient water and snacks.
• Carpe Diem is an amateur activity group, and participating is at own risk.
• Please bear in mind that signing up means that you are committed to come and pay the bill, NOT to show interest or as option. No refund, except when someone replaces you, Administration costs of Eur 50,- will still be charged though. When cancelling without replacement, only 50% will be refunded.
