Unlocking The Art And Value Of Black- And-White Photography by Fran DeRespinis

Details

This presentation is an introduction to
the art of creating evocative images in black-and-
white. Fran will talk about the what, why, and when
of making black-and-white photographs rather than
sticking with the ubiquitous, ever-present multitude
of color imagery that floods the internet. He'll share
famous historical and contemporary images that
show how light, shadow, and texture of the black-
and-white medium can be used to convey strong
emotional and narrative content. There will also be
an elementary look at the film-based Zone System
and what that has to do with digital photography.
Lastly, you'll see a brief demonstration in Adobe
Lightroom Classic, showing one workflow to
achieve a successful black and white conversion
from a color image. This evening is aimed at
beginners who want help getting started with black
and white or maybe, just maybe, for intermediate
black and white creators who might pick up a point
or two. As for the experienced black and white
photographers who already have a deep
appreciation for the timeless beauty and emotional
depth of black-and-white photography, all Fran asks
is that you don't snore during his talk or walk out
after he's begun speaking.
