About us
Cascadia Literary Collective (CLC) is a shared space for lovers of the written word! This group meets monthly to discuss books of all genres (novels, short story anthologies, memoirs, personal essay collections, etc.) Reading selections are chosen by members in the interest of building community and encouraging variety.
Along with forging lasting friendships, a few of the goals of this group are to engage in close reading (highlighting and annotating passages we loved--or didn't--and supporting our arguments or insights with textual evidence) and reading widely (challenging ourselves by reading outside our comfort zones and preferred genres). But this group is community-driven, so we each can use it for what we're hoping to add to our reading lives.
We'll plan to meet for one hour and the facilitator--whoever chose the book for that month--will come with some conversation questions/prompts, but it will otherwise be an open discussion. In the interest of fostering a space where all feel welcome to share, please be mindful of time constraints and don't feel you have to share all thoughts about a selection in one breath. The value of community is the give and take of learning about others' reading experiences.
The facilitator will ask for volunteers for next month's reading at the end of a session and the next facilitator will be chosen at random (i.e. pick a number and whoever is closest goes next). Any wait lists for future selections and other communication will be housed in the comments section of the most recent meeting.
New member drop-ins are welcome and attendance is free, but donations are accepted and will be put toward the monthly $25 fee to maintain this page. The group will meet at the large table nearest the restrooms, unless this is taken, in which case we will combine some smaller tables. If you're new, please look for the table with the plastic Buddha doll.
