Hi Everyone!
Welcome to our first Edmonton Cashflow Meetup Group's monthly newsletter!
When Carly and I took over the group last year, we just wanted to have fun playing the game. As our group progressed, what we enjoyed most was having a safe environment for financial education and helping people network with like-minded people.
Bryan & Carly Nickel
The Cashflow game teaches us about investing, increasing passive income, and getting out of the rat race. I decided to start a monthly newsletter to not only update you on news about this group, but also to hopefully provide you with some valuable information we don't get to talk about during our cashflow games.
I hope that you'll enjoy it! I would appreciate any comments and suggestions.
To Your Success,
Bryan Nickel
First Step To Success
Bryan Nickel
Playing the Cashflow game, our goal is to "get out of the rat race" where our passive income exceeds our expenses. To win the game though, you have to pick a dream, land on it, and buy it. Without that dream, we would just enter another "rat race" circling around and around with no target.
When Carly and I first started on the journey of businesses and investing, our goal was to be rich! To make as much money as we can so we don't have to work anymore. In 5 years, we went through 6 different businesses, with each of them ending with nothing but yet another faded dream. What we realized we missed was one important question: "Why?"
Without the why, we were literally going around and around in circles not knowing where we were heading! Imagine taking a taxi and telling the driver to go somewhere, but not telling them your final destination!
So what is your definition of success?  What is your "why"? Where are you heading? This is a definition different to every single person out there.  Success for one person may be having time to raise a family without having to spend 40 hours a week at work to support them.  For another it may mean the freedom to just drop everything and go on a vacation for 4 weeks without asking permission from their boss; still another's version of success is to own multiple income generating properties.  As you can see, success means so many different things to many different people.  What is your definition?  I would love to know what it is.  If you would like to share your version of success with us - please go to our new blog and let us know! This article will be placed on the blogsite and you will have the opportunity to comment on it with your views.
So often, we associate success with money. Money, according to the dictionary is: "any circulating medium of exchange, including coins, paper money, and demand deposits." Is it money that we're dreaming about then? Or is it something else?
I've recently started reading a book called "The Maui Millionaires" written by David Finkel & Diane Kennedy. Interestingly, those millionaires didn't rise to the top chasing after money, but instead, they wanted something more; something called wealth. Finkel & Kennedy define wealth as: "the feeling that you have more than enough, an abundance of time, energy, and options.  When you are wealthy you have healthy and fulfilling relationships with people that you love. You have an abiding piece of mind that comes from a balance of integrity, faith, laughter, and a sense that you are meaningfully contributing to the world."

Your "why", your definition of success and wealth will carry you through this journey. At moments of doubt and what seems like defeat, go back and look at your dream! A gentleman named Chris Brady once said that we should never, ever be more than two sentences away from our dream otherwise we will get caught up in the rat race again and will find it difficult to get out of it.
Next newsletter, I will dive more into setting goals and intentions, how to make them specific so you know exactly where you're going! In the meantime, there's a free e-book called "The Jackrabbit Factor" that illustrates how important it is to know what you want. We hope you are as inspired as we were once you finish reading it! (Please feel free to discuss it in the blog)
I hope you enjoyed this first article in our first Newsletter!
Club News
What's New For May?

A couple new things are changing with the club that we would like to let everyone know.
  1. There will be a charge of $2 (a toonie) for everyone who comes to play.  This will offset the cost of maintaining the cashflow club and also to pay for the snacks we provide at the games.
  2. Our cashflow games this month are going to be on Saturday, May 9, and Thursday, May 14. Please go to our meetup group for more information.
  3. One of our members has a Cash Flow for Kids game and if anyone has children that you think would like to play, let me know and we will schedule a Cash Flow for Kids game during the week or on the weekends. (This will be excellent for the summer when our children are off school!)
  4. We are in the process of obtaining a similar game to cashflow called "Abundance".  It is a game that incorporates the philosophies of the cash flow game along with some spiritual, ethical and emotional lessons.  We will start scheduling Abundance games soon, so hope to see you there!
  5. If you have anything of interest to the group, please send them to me and I will try to add a list of resources to every newsletter.
  6. If you want to submit an article for the next newsletter, please contact me to discuss it further.
