Biking on Youghiogheny River Trail
Details
Join us for a beautiful start-of-summer Saturday bike ride along the Youghiogheny River starting at Westmoreland County’s Cedar Creek Park. We will follow the Yough River trail ten miles east along a very pristine, forested stretch to the Roundbottom Campground area, just beyond Layton, PA, passing through several old historic, coal-producing landmark towns such as Smithton and Whitsett. Upon reaching Roundbottom Campground, we will return to Cedar Creek Park, completing a roughly 21-mile round trip!
Directions: We will gather at the bike trail access near the Mandarino Riverfront Park, located near Picnic Pavilion #19 and the Park Activities Center (also called Cedar Creek Station). To get there, approach Cedar Creek Park from Municipal Drive (passing the Rostraver Township Municipal Center), and enter the park using the main entrance – via Evergreen Drive. Follow Evergreen Drive all the way to the bottom, where it comes close to the Yough River, then bends to the left. (Follow park signing to Pavilion #19 and Activities Center.) Just beyond the Activities Center Building, you will find the larger parking area, closer to the River. This parking area will be our gathering place. The upper of the two parking areas may also be used if the lower lot is full in the event of a busy day or very active park attendance. B.Y.O.Bike! Sorry, Bike rentals are not available for this ride.
After our ride, we will discuss our adventure at a local Rostraver Township area dining spot!
