This month we have two presentations and a senior team member from Sparx Systems attending, so there are plenty of reasons to get involved with your local Enterprise Architect User Group.

Anthony Draffin, Department of Health & Ageing, is going to do a presentation on using and composing patterns in Enterprise Architect entitled 'Patterns - More Than Mere Stencils'. This will be a topic that builds on core Enterprise Architect functionality - Gang of Four Patterns (http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/modeling_languages/gof_patterns.html) - but expands it to analysis and workflow level patterns.

Will Francis, CSIRO, will be doing the second presentation on the use of Enterprise Architect on the Solid Ground software product, developed under the Sustainable Water Information Models (SWIM) project. Find out more below.

Patterns - More Than Mere Stencils

Patterns guide people, preserving the essential elements of form and structure for reuse, while allowing customisations to be made to suit the situation. Patterns are a stark contrast to stencils, which have to be rigidly applied. This presentation will examine the origins of patterns in the commercial world and their use within the ICT Industry. Half presentation, half tutorial, at the end of the session you will have learnt how to use patterns effectively within Enterprise Architect and create and apply your own. We'll start by looking at the default design patterns included within Enterprise Architect and then move on to more advanced applications of patterns.
