Join us for a thoughtfully curated LGBTQ walking tour of Mexico City, exploring the people, places, and moments that shaped queer history and culture in the capital.
Led by Leo Sánchez Morales, a cultural anthropologist and ENAH graduate born and raised in Mexico City, this small-group experience blends history, storytelling, and lived context—connecting Mexico’s past to its vibrant present.
What we’ll explore:
Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and early expressions of gender, intellect, and resistance in colonial Mexico
The Dance of the 41 (1901) and its lasting impact on Mexican queer identity
The evolution of gay culture in public spaces, including the “Chacal” archetype
A walk through Zona Rosa, Mexico City’s historic LGBTQ neighborhood—how it formed, why it’s called Zona Rosa, and how it continues to change
We’ll use public transit briefly (Metrobús), then end the tour in Zona Rosa, where those who wish can join us for a relaxed post-tour meal and conversation.
