Details

For our next talk we are fortunate that rhipe (The Cloud Channel Company) have provided us a venue and we have David Benaim as a guest speaker over in Singapore. David is a specialist in Power BI and Excel and his talk promises something of interest for everyone.

Timing will be:

6:00pm Open to network (please don't arrive before 6)
6:30pm Talk starts
7:30pm Talk finishes - Q&A plus wrap up
8:00pm Finish

Just to note there should be some soft drinks available at the venue, but no food is provided. You can bring in something to eat there, but please lets respect the kindness of our hosts and not make a mess or bring any durian lol!

Hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you - please let me know if you are interested in talking at an event, with a longer session or even a 10-15 minute lightning talk.

Below is a quick overview of what the talk is about and who David is.

When creating analysis and dashboards, Power BI Desktop can be slower to use than its Microsoft Office counterparts, it’s got fewer shortcuts, multi-select abilities, and navigation speed-up options. There are often multiple ways to perform key tasks, but which is the fastest? We will not cover troubleshooting performance issues, but rather speeding up when authoring in PowerBI.

We will look at some shortcuts & speed up tricks across the board including:

Keyboard shortcuts: in Power Query & PowerBI
Creating your own keyboard shortcuts in PowerBI and Power Query
Navigation. Direct to specific queries, or visuals
Identifying measures & visuals dependent on a specific field/ measure
Performing actions on multiple items e.g. selection pane, model view, grouping
Formatting & arranging faster

Finally, we will discuss the feature gaps. Microsoft has said they plan to make PowerBI into PowerPoint for data. David will show his favourite PowerPoint speed up tricks that should make it into PowerBI eventually.
