What we’re about

What is the purpose of this group:

CEDAR looks at how people can be involved in environmental data collection and its visualization. This is important because understanding how the data reveals the quality of our environment is the first step for citizens to make confident choices with lower environmental impact. CEDAR will develop an app using AR (Augmented Reality) for you to contribute to awareness of environmental issues. This participatory Ph.D. research project is now in the collective data-collecting stage and recruiting participants.

Who should join:
Anyone interested in environmental issues, art, and design is welcome to engage.

What will you involvement be:
Step1: Choose sensor (preparation of data collection): you will be asked to choose a character from these five natural elements: water, tree, microorganism, animal and rock to represent yourself. Then, I will provide you with your own sensor according to your choice.

Step2: Data collection: After get your sensor, you can use the given sensor to collect data, for example, place the sensor in a location you are interested in to obtain the data (air quality, sound and light) surrounding it.

Step3: Data visualization: we will play with materials to see if there are physical ways to visualize the data you collect. Take it easy! You will not be required to create a "perfect artwork". Just try to visualize your imagination of collected data in your own way.
