EA Eugene: is a mental health charity really one of the best out there?
Details
There's been some controversy amongst EAs about the charity "StrongMinds". Giving What We Can lists them as a "top-rated" charity.
So what do StrongMinds do? They use group therapy, teletherapy, and other methods to treat depression amongst the world's poorest communities in Uganda and Zambia.
Some research has suggested their programs are highly effective at treating depression--in fact, they seem to reduce depression more than just about any other therapy out there when used in the United States. Is that really plausible? Critics argue that their effects of their treatments has been exaggerated in their research.
