๐ณ Rooted in Time: A Dedication of the Treasured Oak
You're invited to a very special evening at Community Commons at Center for Spiritual Living Asheville on Arbor Day โ Friday, April 24th from 5โ8 PM.
We are formally dedicating our Ancient Treasured Oak โ the oldest known white oak in Buncombe County, NC, estimated to have sprouted around 1665. Over 360 years old, this tree has witnessed history few can imagine. It served as a gathering place for Indigenous peoples, appears in historical county deeds as a boundary marker, and legend holds that a Cherokee brave is buried at its base. In 2012 it was recognized as a Buncombe County Treasured Tree by Asheville GreenWorks.
โจ Here's what the evening holds:
5:00 PM โ Grounds open. Come early, explore the campus and walk the Labyrinth of Light.
5:15 PM โ Chuck Hunner of Golden Spirit Labyrinths, creator of our Labyrinth of Light, will give a brief talk about its sacred geometry and design. He'll be available throughout the evening to answer your questions.
6:00 PM โ Dedication Ceremony beneath the ancient oak, opened by Rev. Dr. Suzi Schadle with a welcome and gratitudes, followed by a Calling in of the Directions. Community leaders and distinguished guests will be recognized and invited to offer remarks.
๐ถ Live music & drumming throughout the evening by OneVoice
๐ฝ๏ธ Food from HFFE โ Hot Fresh Food Everyday food truck
This is more than an event. It is a moment to honor 360 years of living history, to acknowledge the land and those who came before us, and to gather as a community beneath branches that have sheltered countless souls.
