Nature Walk at McRae Park in Des Moines: Oak Savanna!

Details

Our September nature walk takes place just after the fall equinox, inspiring a theme of “Becoming”. We’ll explore this season of change - in nature, in our lives, and in the world as we walk the Oak Savanna at McRae Park in Des Moines.

"As you walk, look around, assess where you are, reflect on where you have been, and dream of where you are going. Every moment of the present contains the seeds of opportunity for change. Your life is an adventure. Live it fully." -Dr. John Francis.

We’ll meet at 9:00 AM at the McRae Park playground, 1021 Davis Ave, Des Moines, IA 50315. There is parking in front of the playground (and other spots throughout the park).

After we gather near the playground, we will walk up a moderate hill on a wide paved path to the Savanna area.

During the walk, we will have time for conversation, reflection, and quiet. We’ll identify prairie plants, trees, and bird species, and connect more fully to the ancient land in which we live. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about specific plants and trees, and to practice the spiritual aspects of nature, which is a wonderful mindfulness practice.

This nature walk is co-led by the Centering Nature Leadership Team from First Unitarian Church of Des Moines.

To attend, please make reservations here. Bring comfortable walking shoes, binoculars if you have them, and water and nourishment as needed. Please do not attend if you are ill.
