Come play chess at the Pismo Beach Pier Plaza
by the concrete chess tables
2nd and 4th Sundays of every month
2pm-5pm
If you are new to the game, ask around for someone to explain to you how to play. We’re all here to learn and enjoy the company of others, and to spread the love of chess.
Patronize the plaza, support local shops and play outside in beautiful weather!

- Be respectful of others
- Pick up after yourself.
- Don’t leave boards, pieces, & clocks unattended
Chess Etiquette 🤓 🧐:
•Establish with your playing partner if you will do clock- or touch-move. Touch-move please if you aren’t playing with a clock.
•Speak only when your clock is running, unless casual speaking is agreed upon
•Say “adjust” prior to touching a piece you don’t intend on really moving, especially if you’re playing touch-move
•Agree on a time control. Recommended time controls below ⬇️
Recommended settings for casual quick play:
Blitz: 3|2, although 5|0 and 5|5
Rapid: 10|0, although many people play 15|0 and 30|0
