Chess on the Pier

📍Come play chess at the Pismo Beach Pier Plaza by the concrete chess tables between Wooly’s and the beach showers. This Sunday is our first meet up! Come support and have a good time. Invite others to join. Free to play, free to learn.

⏰When: Sundays 10 am-2pm

If you are new to the game, ask around for someone to explain to you how to play. We’re all here to learn and enjoy the company of others, and to spread the love of chess.
Patronize the plaza, support local shops and play outside in beautiful weather!

•Be respectful/friendly of others
•Pick up after yourself. No littering, leave it cleaner than was found if possible
•Don’t leave boards, pieces, & clocks unattended

🤓🧐Chess Etiquette
•Establish with your playing partner if you will do clock-or touch-move. Touch-move please if you aren’t playing with a clock.
•Speak only when your clock is running, unless casual speaking is agreed upon
•Say “adjust” prior to touching a piece you don’t intend on really moving, especially if you’re playing touch-move
•Agree on a time control. Recommended time controls below
Recommended settings for casual quick play: Blitz: 3|2, although 5|0 and 5|5 Rapid: 10|0, although many people play
15|0 and 30|0

You’re welcome to play longer formats if your opponent agrees to.

BYOB (bring your own board) if you have one so you can play in the other non chess tables.
