Fifth Annual Summer AD&D Tournament (In Person)

Details

Join us for the Fifth Annual Summer AD&D Tournament! Our tradition of holding a summer tournament the weekend before Gary Gygax Day continues! We will be holding it in-person at Sci-Fi City in Orlando at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23. Pre-generated characters will be provided. Unfortuntately, the number of attendees will be limited because we only have two DMs (James and Dan). We will be having the Grogtalk podcast at 10:00 a.m., on location. If you haven't been to Sci-Fi City lately, our friend Lloyd Brown (the new owner) has been doing great things with it! Note: We will not be requiring masks to be worn, though you are encouraged to wear one if you want to, particularly if you have a low constitution.

The name of the adventure is "Mollycoddle Darkburrow and the Illusionist’s Wand." Here is the introduction to the adventure:

Several years ago, a party of gnomes looted Kurtulmak’s palace in Hell. One of the items they returned with to the Gnome Realms was a small, slender black book, which appeared to be some sort of law book, but whose writing could not be deciphered. Sold at auction, it was then loaned to the Museum of Gnomish History for investigation, but during a heist the book was stolen. Rumor has it that the book is a book of judgment, whose magic could spell doom for the Realms. The gnomes of the Realm are in a panic, fearing that judgment day could come for them at any time.
But these problems are not yours. You are six gnome apprentice illusionists studying off the coast at the prestigious Gnomish Academy of Phantasmal Sorcery, within the safe confines of its ivy-covered castle (Whisperleaf). You are each a member of a clan descended from the clan founded by Urdlen, the evil gnome deity (the so-called Crawler Below). For centuries members of such clans were unfairly banned from attending the Academy, and no one even dared openly acknowledge worshipping Lord Urdlen. But times are changing. Worshippers of Urdlen are out in the open, and the ban has been recently lifted (thanks to Mollycoddle Darkburrow’s father, Malum Darkburrow, who sits on the Phantasmist Council, the Gnome Realms governing body). You six are the first members from such a clan to have been admitted, and you began your studies this fall. It is now almost winter break, and throughout the semester you have received not only a proper education in illusionary magic, but a proper education in the gnomanities. But perhaps the problems of the Realms have now made their way to the Academy.
It is nighttime, December 21, and you have retired to the dormitory room the six of you share on the second floor of Urdlen Tower. As always, you had dinner in the Great Hall. You then ate your nightly treat (a “gold nugget,” a magical chocolate ball covered with gold dust) in the Urdlen House common room, in honor of Lord Urdlen, who on December 21, long ago, was expelled from the Academy. You’ve finished studying your assigned spells for tomorrow’s exam, and you are opening your mail by candlelight. Mollycoddle has received a package from his parents, along with a most interesting letter from his father. . . .
