JAMMIN MIDDLE EASTERN and AISSAWA CLASSES

Information about the origins and uses of the rhythms in their original context will be included; individual feedback on technique will be provided. All rhythms will be provided in Box Notation form as an aid to memory and practice. Drums are available on a limited basis for class use; call to reserve.

This class will focus on Middle Eastern drum techniques (Frame Drum, Riqq, Arabic Tabla, Tareyja, and more). We will cover the basic middle eastern rhythms and will also focus on Sufi trance drumming (Moroccan and Persian) as well as Gnawa rhythms. The last 15-20 minutes of EACH class will be set aside for either jamming and improvising around a traditional pyramidical rhythm OR playing one of the polyrhythmic trance rhythms long enough to really sink in. The fee for this class is just $12 or class card $60 for 6 classes (any hour classes at the JDS Studio).
