Details
Time to get out on those bikes and ride!
Come out for the weekend or come out for just the day.
We will be camping at Silver Lake Recreation Area at Crooked River which is located in the very back section of Silver Lake.
You may book your site at the following:
I have reserved site 67.
Saturday the plan is to ride in the morning. We will meet in the parking lot of the entrance to Silver Lake Rec at 8:30am (Subject to change). We will ride North on the With. We will discuss our options for riding when we meet.
Would like to ride to Floral City and stop for lunch somewhere and then ride back to the campground. Depending on what time we complete the ride, we may paddle. I believe the mileage to be about 14 miles each way for a total of 28. We may do all of it, we may not.
If you do not want to ride, please come out and just paddle.
Sunday we can pedal, paddle, or hike. Silver Lake has a lot to offer.
The bathrooms are very big and clean with great hot water.
If you want to bring a camper, there are 3 campgrounds at Silver Lake Recreation Area Complex, they are Silver Lake, Cypress Glen, and Crooked River. We are staying at Crooked River, tent camping only and no electric. The other two offer electric and you can bring pop ups, etc.
There will be no potluck. Please bring all your own meals.
Please be prepared to bring plenty of water and Snacks for the bike ride. There are two bike shops along the route where you could pick up snacks, energy chews etc.
At 46 miles in length, the Withlacoochee State Trail is presently the longest paved rail-trail in Florida. With a generally flat terrain and many access points, the trail is an ideal venue for all skill and fitness levels of cycling, running, walking and skating and an unpaved equestrian trail parallels portions of the paved trail. The trail corridor traverses three counties (Citrus, Hernando and Pasco), offering an enjoyable, varied journey as it runs through small towns, ranches and six distinct natural communities between Citrus Springs and Trilby. Officially designated as part of the Florida Greenways and Trail System, this State Trail is also a National Recreation Trail® which offers rich opportunities for viewing wildlife and access to many other outstanding recreational opportunities. Among the recreational highlights nearby are the unpaved trails in the Croom area of the Withlacoochee State Forest, the Withlacoochee River (South) Canoe Trail and Fort Cooper State Park.
