What we’re about
Looking to meet and befriend other geeky locals in the greater Orlando metro area? Then this is the group for you! The Central Florida Nerds Social Group is an 18+ friends group that connects nerds together through fun and inclusive events both in the Orlando area and virtually!
Come and hang out with us as we talk about games, movies, comics, fantasy, sci-fi, anime, and cosplay! Whether you're new to the Orlando area or have lived here awhile and just want to get to know folks, you're more than welcome to join us!
We host both in-person and virtual events; send a message to one of the organizers for the Discord link if you'd like to join any of the virtual events! Otherwise, feel free to RSVP as usual for in-person events!
We ask that all members:
- Introduce yourself within 7 days after joining, either on MeetUp, Heylo, or in our Discord!
- MUST be at least 18 years old or older!
- Be considerate of others and mindful of how your words might affect them!
- Absolutely no degrading or trolling comments about race, religion, culture, orientation, or identity will be tolerated, nor will any discussion of certain topics with the intention of shocking or triggering others!
- Respect boundaries when they are given!
- This is not a singles group; please do not treat it like one!
- Do NOT use the group as an advertising or venting platform!
- If anyone makes you uncomfortable, reach out to one of the organizers!
Our in-person events include:
- Hangouts at public venues!
- Nerdy bars like Vault 5421! Chill out with a cool drink and nerd out with like-minded people!
- Arcade Monsters for a more game-focused hangout!
- Dining out together at various restaurants for special occasions like Friendsgiving!
- And more; we're open to suggestions!
- Speedfriending Nights!
- Feel intimidated by larger groups? Not sure how to keep the conversation going? Speedfriending is a great way to get started!
- Everyone will be assigned to groups of 3-5! Introduce yourselves, share interests, and if you get stuck, a small set of cards with conversation topics will be provided for each table! After a few minutes, you'll then be sorted into new groups 3-5, and repeat!
- Theme Park Days
- Universal, Sea World, and Disney!
- While these events are intended for Annual Passholders, you are more than welcome to purchase a day ticket if you'd like, but please do not break your bank if it will be too much! There's always other events to join!
- Escape Rooms
- Work together to solve the puzzles and escape!
- Note that due to the nature of this event, a paid RSVP ticket may be required!
- Karaoke
- Sing your heart out and enjoy the light conversation between tunes!
- No experience required; we're just here to have fun!
- Board Game Nights
- Both casual and complex board games will be available!
- Conventions
- Whether it’s your first time or if you're an experienced congoer, we’d be more than happy to provide warm and familiar company to geek out over all the merch, cosplays, and artists!
Our virtual events include:
- Regular VRChat Meetups (VR is NOT required to join! You can join in on Desktop or Mobile!)
- All meetups will be PRIVATE, and IN-GROUP ONLY! No need to worry about sudden intrusions!
- Activities include:
- Introduction to VRChat for Newbies!
- Game Worlds!
- World Exploration Nights!
- Virtual Speedfriending!
- Hangout & Vibe!
- Once again, VR is NOT required to join! PCVR, Quest, Mobile, and Desktop users are all welcome!
- Video Game Nights
- Most games offered will be FREE party games such as Jackbox, Gartic Phone, Cards Against Humanity, and Tetr.io!
- However, we’re open to games that may require specific setups if there is enough interest (e.g. Mario Kart)!
- Watch Along Hour!
- Movies, TV Shows, Anime — all streamed directly through Discord!
- To join in on Virtual events, please message one of the Organizers for a Discord invite link!
