What we’re about
If you are interested in learning more about insects (and related arthropods), consider joining our group. Amateurs and professionals and anyone interested in insects is welcome. We meet monthly (and typically examine a local habitat). We hike many trails and take concessional trips to museums in nearby cities (all trips are less than a day in length). If inclement weather forces cancellation of a trip on Saturday, we will try the following day (Sunday) at 1 p.m. [Check our website or message Mark via Meetup if you have a question about a given trip.] Annual dues are $10 (which includes membership in the Peoria Academy of Science). If you would like to learn more about insects, consider joining our group.
You can also find us at our website - Central Illinois Insects.
And... we have a Facebook group - Central Illinois Insects.

Reminder - we will be discontinuing our Meetup group effective fall, 2025 (it is just too expensive for our not for profit). If you wish to be notified of future plans (and are not a current member), please join our Facebook group (or visit our website periodically).
For our September meeting, we will be having a potluck at Jubilee State Park (most likely Red Fox Run picnic area).
We can't reserve the space in advance, but some of us will try to show up early. I will bring my mercury vapor lamp setup so we can observe insects attracted to the lamp after dark. I am also planning on setting up a demonstration of the older approach - sugaring for moths. If this works well, who knows, perhaps I will also show the European approach in coming years - wine roping. I plan on brining gondola sandwiches for the main entree. The rest is up to those participating.
Hope to see you there.
