Start your May with a short drive to Canton for a pleasant ride on the Lakeland Park Bicycle Trails. But first, we’re gonna hit a bucket of balls at the nearby driving range. The park and its trails was previously a golf course, but they saved the driving range. I’ve got a bundle of clubs to share with everyone and a bucket of balls costs just $5. So, even if you’ve never golfed, show up on time and swing a few. We’ll meet at 10:30 am on Sunday, May 3rd at the Lakeland Park (aka Canton Park) Driving Range. 20 minutes later we’ll head over to the trailhead (1/2 mile away). The ride begins with a short but gentle grade down to the valley bottom, then passes through forests and over bridges where it connects to Big Creek Park and finally to our destination of Wallace Park. Midway on the return we’ll take a city-streets detour to Baskin-Robbins for ice cream, and then head back to the starting point. This is a wide, well maintained asphalt paved bike trail. The trailhead has ample parking, toilets, and potable water. Most of the trip is flat, there’s just two very short gentle grades to gear down for. The round trip distance is 6.4 miles (including the ice cream detour).

If you’re an avid biker, looking for a longer ride, there’s an additional 5 mile loop available (all newly paved and all flat), north of the trailhead which can easily be added to the trip afterwards.

If you don’t own a bike, no problem, they have bike rentals at the trailhead. Rental bikes are $3 per hour, and you pay via an app. They have four rental bikes available first come, first serve.
