Lost Bridge Trail - West

Details

The Lost Bridge Trail is a converted Baltimore & Ohio railway line that runs from the IDOT parking lot on Dirksen Parkway to the Village of Rochester. The trail crosses the South Fork of the Sangamon River near Rochester, and crosses Sugar Creek near Springfield. The Lost Bridge trail name recalls IDOT's failure to prevent salvagers affiliated with the B&O from dismantling the Sugar Creek bridge for scrap. IDOT had to build a new bridge.
The trail is completely paved and mostly shaded, providing a nice, easy walk conducive to conversation. The first section has an easy hill, then it flattens out for the remainder of the trail. We'll go out for 30-40 minutes or so, then retrace our path. Total distance around 3 miles.
We'll be starting at the IDOT parking lot, 2300 S Dirksen Parkway, south parking lot, promptly at 5:30.
Apres-Hike: Abe's Hideout, 2301 S Dirksen Parkway, literally right across the street from the trailhead. I'll have some tables reserved for our group.
You need to RSVP for the apres'-hike party on a separate Meetup event, which will help me to reserve the proper number of tables.
