Washington Park Evening Walk
Details
Washington Park on the west side of Springfield is a 150-acre site added to the park district in 1901. This is one of the area's historic parks, developed as termini of the urban trolley line in use at the time. Designed by Ossian Simonds, noted for his naturalistic style of landscape design, the park is on the National Register of Historic Places. The park has rolling terrain, large trees and wooded areas, some deep ravines and two man-made lagoons.
Washington Park is one of the few parks in the area that doesn't close at sunset, but is accessible until 10 pm, allowing us to do a nice after-work winter hike. Most of the route is lit well enough for a walk.
I have a 2.9 mile route laid out that winds through the park, using the paved paths and roads.
We'll start promptly at 5:30 pm, please adjust your RSVP if you have a last minute change.
Apres' Hike location: Izumi Rotary and Bar, just 10 minutes from the trailhead parking lot. I will post a separate Meetup event for the Apres event.
