Spock Testing and Mocking Framework
Details
For our first meeting of 2018, Derek Eskens will introduce us to the Spock testing and mocking framework. We'll compare Spock to JUnit, learn why it will save you time; which will make you enjoy writing tests; which will make you a better programmer; which will make you more money.
Derek will also demonstrate testing with Groovy. Using Groovy in testing code is a great introduction to the language and a foot in the door to getting it accepted as a language standard within your company.
If you haven't been using JDK 8, the functional concepts and collection comprehensions in Groovy will change your life.
Thanks to our Epic sponsor Source Allies for hosting our February event. We'll socialize over pizza and pop before the presentation. We hope you will join us!
Derek Eskens has almost 15 years of software development experience in a broad array of industries. For the past 10 years, his focus has been on JVM technologies and front-end stacks. Prior to developing software, Derek spent a lot of time in customer service. This has made him a strong end-user advocate. Preferring simpler UX lends itself to simpler code that is easier to maintain and enhance. Which in turn makes happy developers. Derek has an odd fascination with refactoring, optimizations, writing fast tests and being lazy. Derek is also a rabid foodie. If you need a restaurant recommendation while in Omaha, feel free to get in touch.
