What Humanism Means to Me: Personal Experience Shares & Festive Party
Details
New visitors and old friends are all invited to join us for an evening of personal stories, music, festive fun, friendship and connecting.
We have an exciting spin on our usual talks event this December. This time we have invited a small group of CLH members and friends to tell us what humanism means to them, sharing their personal journeys and experiences. There will be entertainment, with music from Alex Williams, and a raffle. The second half of the evening will be our CLH festive party. All this for just £5!
- Please join from 6:30 PM to mingle and enjoy the refreshments*
- The presentation is at 7 PM. Starting with some lovely music, followed by our incredible speakers, then the raffle
- After the presentation there will be plenty of time to socialise, eat and drink until 9:30 PM*
- The after-party then moves to a nearby pub, The Queen's Head and Artichoke, where we have tables booked – all welcome
So expect festive entertainment, moving speeches, raffle prizes and lots of time to socialise with humanist friends over food and drink*. Our compere, the talented humanist poet and singer, Alex Williams, will ensure that the event is fun, friendly and inclusive.
If you came to our What Humanism Means to Me event last September you will know what an inspiring, enjoyable and sociable event this is!
All profits from the event will be donated to the CLH designated charities: Faith to Faithless who offer apostasy support and advocacy as part of Humanists UK and Humanists International's Humanists at Risk campaign, supporting humanists facing persecution around the world.
*Food and soft drinks are included with the entrance charge. There will be our usual low cost charity drinks bar for alcoholic beverages.

We’re very happy to introduce our speakers for the evening, who will be sharing their personal humanist journeys.
Alex Williams (Event Compere)
Singer, writer, teacher, poet, actor and director, Alex has won numerous awards and hosts the popular Dial Up Open Mic, celebrating community and creativity in all their forms. A humanist for many years, Alex is a longstanding member of ABH and has hosted several wonderful open mic poetry evenings for CLH, the centrepiece being his own brilliant poems, including ‘Secular Verses’. We’re thrilled to have him back to compere the event and dazzle us with his performance of secular festive songs.
Lola Tinubu
Raised in a devout Seventh Day Adventist family in Nigeria, Lola became a proud humanist about 19 years ago, and is a co-founder of Association of Black Humanists (ABH). She is a Legal Representative for Refugees and Migrants, as well as being a staunch supporter of the LGBT community, a feminist, and an unapologetic atheist and humanist.
Tabassum Khanom Sumaiya
… is a passionate blogger, freethinker, and activist dedicated to human rights, feminism, and animal welfare. A student of LLB and a committed feminist since 2018, she began her advocacy journey after witnessing the injustices faced by women in patriarchal systems. In 2021, following a courageous journey of self-discovery as an ex-religious person, she embraced atheism and humanism, overcoming immense personal struggles. With the support of Humanists UK, she found a renewed purpose, transforming her advocacy into a powerful testament to hope, justice, and humanity.

He combines this with being a Humanist Funeral Celebrant. His circuitous journey to Humanism took him through experience as an Anglican priest, a devout Catholic layman, and a follower of 'engaged Buddhism'. He is an active member of Central London Humanists and LGBT Humanists, a member of Humanists UK and Humanists International, and he recently joined the HUK Dialogue Network, a subject in which he has a keen interest
Richard Norman
