The good, the bad and their legacy

We will look at those figures in history, mostly philosophers, but others too, who we look up to and often are considered the foundation of our philosophy and society, but have questionable connections.

Why did they become recognised as famous intellectuals and why did their philosophies and ideas become so important for our present-day thinking.

While some of their views have long been discredited, we still need to consider the important aspects of their teachings. What as humanist, should our response be?

This session is not designed to berate or to totally discredit their work, but to discuss and to develop a response that recognises the complexity of this issue.

Join us for open discussion on all these points. We will begin with a short presentation of the concepts and then open the floor to participants to have their say.
