What we’re about
Humanism is a non-theistic world view. Humanists are interested in human rights, the separation of church and state, and making the world a better place for everyone. We look to science, reason, and empathy to guide us in looking for solutions to problems in our lives and in the world.
Some of the goals of our group:
- to create a supportive community for humanists in CNY
- to put our values into action by helping the local community through volunteering and community service
- to educate people about humanism and other non-theistic worldviews

Join us for a fun day helping our friends at the Robert Green Ingersoll Birthplace Museum get the museum ready for summer!
In addition to doing a good deed, there will be other Humanist/Atheist/Freethought groups helping as well—so it will be a nice chance to meet some other like-minded folks from the region!
The cleanup starts at 10am. If you have some, please bring gardening and/or cleaning tools!Lunch will be provided, so please RSVP to us at cnyhumanists@gmail.com so we can let the organizers know how many to expect.
If you would like to carpool: Meet at 8 am in the Destiny USA parking lot at the corner of Solar St. and Hiawatha, near the end of the elevated walkway. The museum is about an hour and a half away. so cars will probably be heading out by 8:30.
If you would prefer to meet us at the Museum, the address is 61 Main St, Dresden, NY 14441.
- Cookout for the HomelessSandwich Saturday location, Syracuse, NY
Join us to volunteer at the Annual We Rise Above the Streets Memorial Day Cookout for the Homeless! It's a wonderful event, and a great way to kick off the Summer!
It’s a great chance to work with a large number of enthusiastic volunteers from the wider community, while helping folks who are unhoused or just need some help. The atmosphere is fun and cheerful, and the guests at the picnic are always very appreciative.
No need to RSVP to the Central New York Humanists. Just show up and come find us in our CNYHA T-shirts!
The organizers, We Rise Above the Streets Recovery Outreach, are accepting donations of food or money for the event. If you’d like to contribute, you can get more information and indicate what you plan to bring at the We Rise Above the Streets website. Where it asks if you are part of a group, let them know you’re with the CNY Humanists.
