Women's Psychedelic Book Club
Details
We have been reading Merlin Stone’s classic When God Was a Woman. However as much as we cherish the knowledge, the book is a bit dry. So we are now pivoting to try some thought-provoking fiction with The Power by Naomi Alderman.
In The Power, Naomi Alderman imagines a world suddenly transformed when women develop the ability to generate electricity from their bodies, a physical power that can harm, kill, and control. This new force spreads rapidly, flipping the balance of gendered power structures across the globe. As governments, religions, and social orders collapse or adapt, the story follows how this power transforms the lives of several characters.
The novel is an exploration of collective and individual power, trauma, awakening, and transformation. Don't have time for the book? You can watch the loosely adapted series on Prime.
