Roadtrip: The Painted Hills

Details
Road Trip!
The Painted Hills Unit is one of the 7 wonders in Oregon. When you travel there, you can see millions of years of history revealed in the layers of mountains of the earth, one color at a time. A journey to the hills is a journey through ancient and recent history.
Across from the overlook is the (opt) Carroll Rim Trail; it is high up along the rim of an adjacent plateau. The out and back trail is only 1.6 miles in length with an incredible 360 degree view at the top. The hike is gradual all the way up to the top. Depending on the groups timetable, we could venture further--30 miles and visit The Thomas Condon Paleontology Museum, or...a couple of ghost towns.
What to bring? A daypack with the appropriate 10 Essentials, water, snacks. If it's sunny, then do bring sun protection (wide brimmed hat, and sunscreen).
Afterward, it's a short drive to Mitchell, pop. 150. There we'll stop for lunch and refreshments at Tiger Town Brewing Company, to be followed by a mosey up the street to the mercantile for a foray into the ice cream freezer. Optional of course, but you watch me...
I need 2 drivers to volunteer their vehicles. All of you will pitch in for gas. $10.
Upon arriving back in Tumalo on our way back, we may elect to further debrief at the Bite food cart lot. I mean, it's been a long day, no?
The end time is approximate.
