What weāre about
Central Virginia Trailblazers was established in 2011 as an activity based hiking and outdoor adventure group in Richmond, Virginia. At the time, there were few if any active groups in the area that welcomed hikers and adventure lovers of all experience levels. Over the years, we have brought together over 3,000 like-minded individuals throughout Greater Richmond and beyond who have taken part in over 1,000 adventures.
Our activities reflect the diversity of our members. The hikes on our calendar range from casual, beginner-level strolls through local parks and neighborhoods to strenuous overnight backpacking trips in the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to hiking, other popular activities include car camping, kayaking, recreational biking, and social gatherings. Most activities and trips are within an hour or two of Richmond, but we often travel beyond Virginiaās borders for multi-day trips to other states.
A tremendous amount of planning and coordination is required to make these events happen. We are extremely fortunate to have an exceptional group of volunteer organizers (āAdventure Specialistsā), all of whom donate their time, effort, talent, and experience to make these amazing trips possible. Their loyalty and dedication is one of the key reasons that CVT stands out from other groups.

That time of year -- ye olde tube float! We will do the trip out of Scottsville as usual.
**Please note: The outfitter, Reeling & Rafting, has changed their policy, and will no longer rent single tubes. They require you to rent a minimum of two tubes. This means if you are booking in advance, you will need to buddy up and share the cost for 2 tubes. It is kind of a pain but I can see where it will save them time getting folks on the shuttle without a ton of singles to wrangle. Feel free to use the comments section to arrange tubing buddies. **
This is a nice wide stretch of the James to float on. Hopefully we'll get some rain between now and then so the water won't be super low. If not, prepare for a rocky experience š Reservations can be made here
****When you reserve, select the 11am trip. ***
We will need to arrive at Reeling & Rafting by 10:30am
If you would like to carpool--meet at the GRTC Park & Ride located at the intersection of Gaskins Rd at Mayland. We will be leaving the carpool lot at 9am.
The Reeling and Rafting fee includes your tube rental and shuttle to the put- in location.
If you want to rent a tube to put your cooler in it is an extra $10.
Waiver is required and can be filled out and signed online.
Pack a picnic and plenty of hydration supplies. Note: "alcohol is prohibited on the river".
