About us
Central Virginia Trailblazers was established in 2011 as an activity based hiking and outdoor adventure group in Richmond, Virginia. At the time, there were few if any active groups in the area that welcomed hikers and adventure lovers of all experience levels. Over the years, we have brought together over 3,000 like-minded individuals throughout Greater Richmond and beyond who have taken part in over 1,000 adventures.
Our activities reflect the diversity of our members. The hikes on our calendar range from casual, beginner-level strolls through local parks and neighborhoods to strenuous overnight backpacking trips in the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to hiking, other popular activities include car camping, kayaking, recreational biking, and social gatherings. Most activities and trips are within an hour or two of Richmond, but we often travel beyond Virginia’s borders for multi-day trips to other states.
A tremendous amount of planning and coordination is required to make these events happen. We are extremely fortunate to have an exceptional group of volunteer organizers (“Adventure Specialists”), all of whom donate their time, effort, talent, and experience to make these amazing trips possible. Their loyalty and dedication is one of the key reasons that CVT stands out from other groups.

Virginia Triple Crown
Oilville Road Park and Ride, 2240 Oilville Road,, Maidens, VA, USBecome hiking royalty by completing the Virginia Triple Crown of hikes! Let's enjoy 3 days of hiking Virginia's most regal trails: Dragon's Tooth, Tinker Cliffs and McAfee Knob. All 3 are challenging hikes and offer something completely different. Instead of backpacking the entire loop as most people do, we are going to enjoy a bit of luxury and stay in a hotel for 2 nights. It will be really nice to have a hot shower and a soft bed. Each person will need to reserve their own hotel room at the "very fancy" La Quinta Inn Roanoke/Salem. The hotel address is 140 Sheraton Dr. Salem, VA 24153. I booked my room on Booking.com and the total for 2 nights is just under $300 and includes breakfast and parking. If you share a room that's about $150 p.p. Feel free to use the event chat to discuss room sharing.
The plan is:
Day 1-carpool from Oilville and head directly to Dragons Tooth trailhead. It is about a 3 hour drive. After the hike, check into hotel for the evening, and dinner out.
Day 2- breakfast at hotel, then drive to Tinker Cliffs trailhead. Eat lunch on the trail. Post hike dinner/optional group activities.
Day 3- The grand finale hike! After breakfast at the hotel, check out and drive to the McAfee Knob trailhead. After the hike we will head back to Richmond--we will stop for dinner on the way. What to bring:
Bring all clothes and necessary day hike equipment as needed as well as supplies (clothes, toiletries) for staying overnight 2 nights. Bring any necessary hiking snacks and water, $ for meals and carpool fee and for any optional activities. Breakfast will be at the hotel, lunch will be on the trail, and we'll most likely go somewhere for dinner after each hike. Also bring rain gear, sunscreen, bug spray, headlamp or flashlight and basic first aid supplies.
Dogs allowed: No
Carpool fee: $30.00 per person assuming a full vehicle.
