Fleets Island Paddle (Bring your own kayak)

Join us for the annual CVT bring-your-own-kayak paddle to Cedars Beach in the Chesapeake Bay. On this intermediate level trip, we will paddle the interior loop of the Little Oyster Creek and Rappahannock River. Leaving from the Windmill Point Creek (aka Little Oyster creek) canoe/kayak launch parking lot, we will paddle around the interior of Fleets Island to a beach where we will eat lunch and spend some time soaking up the sun and swimming in the Bay before heading back to the starting point. The trip will involve 7.3 miles of paddling. PFDs and a whistle, bell or horn are required in each boat by the Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries. Following the paddle, for those that are interested, we will visit the Tiki Bar at the Windmill Point Marina prior to heading back to Richmond.

There was a remote at-the-put-in self service kiosk there last year for rentals. Was pricey and no idea if still there or in service. Please do your research or you are rolling the dice on this....

DETAILS:
Little Oyster creek canoe/kayak launch is BEFORE the Windmill Point Marina. Look for a small parking lot on your right just before you reach the marina and the bay (5 minutes back up the road). We will not be putting in at the bay.
Make every attempt to be on the water at 10:30AM. There is little or no cell service at the put in. We cannot wait for stragglers. It is a 1.5 hour drive from downtown Richmond and includes the not so good I-64 going East for a bit!

Don’t forget your sunscreen. Beach chairs and umbrellas if you can port them, there is no shade on the island.

Rumor has it, jello shots might be making a comeback this year after a 2 year hiatus...
