Celebrate the 250th anniversary of this great nation at Letchworth State Park in New York State.
Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. Trails are also available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks, tours, a summer lecture series, kayaking, a pool for swimming and hot air ballooning.
We will also explore any local 4th of July festivities in the area.
The park has campsites and cabins. Each person is responsible for reserving their own spot or making arrangements to share a site. Campsites allow 2 tents per site. Campgrounds have bathhouse/showers.
I have booked Site 425. There are several other available sites in the same loop (loop 400). You will need to book your site ASAP as the campground will sell out. Letchworth is frequently rated as one of the top 10 state parks in the country, so it is very popular. You can make reservations here. The dates are July 1 thru July 5 (4 nights). The total for my site was $143.00.
The park also has cabins to rent if anyone wants to upgrade their experience!
To bring: All camping equipment and gear for 4 nights of car camping. Some members have gear they are willing to share. If there is something you need, put it in the comments section.
Meals: we will do a combo of group meals at camp, fending for ourselves and eating out at local restaurants. We will plan group meals prior to the trip.
Dogs allowed: no
Carpool cost: TBD
As we get closer to the trip date we will plan specific activities and hikes.
Use the comments section to give your site info and make arrangements for sharing sites.
