Details

Nestled between Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, False Cape State Park is one of the last remaining undeveloped areas along the Atlantic coast. As the former home of the historic Wash Woods community, False Cape honors the hardy souls who made a living from the sea. The park offers an opportunity to experience nature in a unique, primitive setting. Be prepared for weather conditions. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and insect repellent.
We will hike 9-10 miles through Back Bay Wildlife Rserve, interior trails of False Cape State Park, and several miles on beautiful unspoiled beach.
Bring plenty of water, snacks, bug spray, sunscreen and a lunch and we will picnic on the trail. You also may want to bring a towel to get rid of pesky sand after the hike.
There is a fee to enter Back Bay NWR. Last time I went, they allowed me to use my Multi-agency National Park pass.
*Following the hike, we will stop at a local strawberry stand (this area is famous for its Pungo strawberries) and will also stop for dinner before heading back to Richmond. It will be a long but fun day--hope you can join us!
