Sunday Funday: Let's Have a Raleigh Good Time
Details
Join CVT for a full day that will be part hike, part scavenger hunt and part urban exploration. Thank you CVT Monica for inspiring me to plan this trip by enlightening me about Thomas Dambo and his magical giant troll sculptures. Although these gentle giants are scattered all over the world, there are 5 located in Raleigh, NC. Let's find them!
We will carpool and caravan to Dorothea Dix Park. After completing our troll hunting quest we will visit other areas of the park. There are art installations, a market and trails.
The date of this trip has been carefully selected as it will coincide with a very special annual event. Every year the park plants a 5 acre field with thousands of sunflower seeds. Peak bloom is typically mid to late July and entry to the field is free. Hoping we will hit it just right. We'll definitely stop and take advantage of the many photo ops! We'll explore the park and check out a few murals in the surrounding neighborhood. If we have time, we will head over to the NC State Farmers Market, which is HUGE and adjacent to Dix Park. Lots of fun, lots of walking and TONS of photo ops.
To bring/wear: dress for summer in the south; broken in hiking shoes or boots or tennis shoes. Bring plenty of water, snacks and pack a lunch; we'll find somewhere pretty in the park to sit and eat. Bring sunscreen/bug spray/ for any food or drinks and other potential purchases
Carpool fee for trip: 18.00 pp assuming a full carload
Dogs allowed: no
*The itinerary order may slightly change once we arrive and get the lay of the land. We may need to adjust based on things like crowds, hours activities are open, bathroom stops, need to duck in for an AC break, etc. In short, be flexible!
Hope you can join us!!!
