Sierra Club Book Club - The Overstory by Richard Powers

Details

Join us for the third meeting of the Sierra Club's book club, where we will be discussing The Overstory by Richard Powers. The winner of a Pulitzer prize, this book tells the stories of nine people connected by nature. From the back cover: "From the roots to the crown and back to the seeds, Richard Powers’s twelfth novel unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late twentieth-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. There is a world alongside ours—vast, slow, interconnected, resourceful, magnificently inventive, and almost invisible to us. This is the story of a handful of people who learn how to see that world and who are drawn up into its unfolding catastrophe."

The book may be available at local libraries, as well as other platforms of your choosing. If you prefer to purchase a copy, we encourage local bookstores!

The location is still being determined; check back closer to the event date for more information! This event is free and open to the public. Feel free to come join us even if you don't get a chance to finish the book. We hope to see you there!
