The toughest part of this enjoyable, easy 2-mile urban hike/walk this time of year will be the dubious footing and surfaces -- we will definitely traipse along firm asphalt-paved trails, but we may also run into patches of mud, slushy & melting snow, ice, and soggy grass.

Tom Tudek Memorial Park extends across 87 acres of open space in the heart of State College. Among other attractions, it boasts a community garden, butterfly garden, small horse farm, playground and picnic pavilions, tennis courts, basketball court, sports fields, a small arboretum, and views of a classic Pennsylvania barn and silo. Tussey Mountain and Mount Nittany are visible in the distance from various viewpoints.

The perimeter loop trail meanders over hill and dale with modest elevation gain. In season, this is a popular destination for walkers, joggers, dog walkers, and bicyclists. The park has dozens of benches with engraved plaques dedicated to loved ones and park lovers.

We will meet at 12 NOON at the gravel parking lot on the left side of Herman Drive, just inside the park entrance. Turn onto Herman Drive from Martin Drive. The North Gym, Weis and Giant grocery stores are nearby. A kiddie playground and tennis courts are close to this parking lot.
