I was raised Protestant, later studied Buddhism, became Roman Catholic, studied Daoism and then Hindusim and now am interested in secular humanism. I hope this group will help me to learn more about human potential.
This is a good forum for questioning one's faith and belief system. This group is important because it asks everyone to use their mind and apply reason rather than blind faith. However, I sense there is an antagonism against religion and mysticism that I do not find entirely healthy. Although there has been a history of violence performed in the name of religion, absence of religion will not improve matters. Religion is not the problem, people are. I agree with Albert Einstein, "Science without religion is lame, Religion without science is blind". Like Einstein, I no longer believe in a personal God. However, I do believe that humanity has imagination and can think of things not yet proven. Therefore, we should not dismiss religion and mysticism but embrace it as an imaginative way of thinking and realize that someday science will put this imagination into proper perspective. In the meantime, we need to keep appreciating one another for our differing perspectives.
