Announcing a new Meetup for CFI Portland Meetup Group!

What: Sci/Rel Disc: X-mas Theme - Did Jesus really have no human biological father?

When: Monday, December 13, 2010 6:30 PM

Where: Evergreen Presbyterian Church
7275 SW Hall Boulevard
Beaverton, OR 97008

Tom Gebhardt from CFI Portland will represent secular humanists.

The Westside Science & Religion Discussion group is now co-organized by CFI and serves as a forum for honest but cordial dialog between faith and non-faith. This is a monthly event with changing topics. Our co-organizers and conversation partners are generally Pastor Nathan Lewis and Imam Mohammad Rahman, but the presenters may change depending on the topic. We will mingle over pizza and soda beforehand, and there will be a Q&A session after the presentations.

Here are the details for this month:

Topic: Christmas Theme: Did Jesus really have no human biological father?
-- Is there reasonable evidence for the divine conception of Jesus?
-- Does it really matter (theologically) if Jesus was conceived by God rather than a human biological father?
-- Do the stories of other Greek Gods (Hercules, etc.) being born of unions with their God and mortal cheapen the claim of divine conception of Jesus?

Secular Humanism: Tom Gebhardt (CFI-Portland)
Islam: Mohammad Rahman (The Islamic Center of Portland, in Beaverton)
Christianity: Pastor Nathan Lewis (Evergreen Presbyterian Church, in Beaverton)
Moderator: Bernie Dehler
