CFIC Volunteer Academy: Getting People to Your Events
Week 3 — WHAT: Turning Attention into Action

You've found the right audience. You've figured out where to reach them.

Now comes the critical question:

What do you say that will make someone stop, pay attention—and want to attend?

In this practical 30-minute session, we'll look at how to turn an ordinary event announcement into a message that creates genuine interest and gives people a reason to act.

You don't have to be an event organizer—or a marketing expert—to benefit. This session is for anyone who writes, posts or shares CFIC event announcements, helps other volunteers promote events, or simply wants to become a more effective communicator.

In just 30 minutes, you'll learn how to:

  • Write titles and opening lines that attract attention without resorting to clickbait.
  • Explain why someone should give up their time to attend.
  • Use clear, accessible language that creates interest and curiosity.
  • Adapt your message for different audiences and platforms.
  • Create a strong call to action that turns interest into registrations and RSVPs.

We'll use a simple formula you can apply almost anywhere:

HOOK → VALUE → PROOF → DETAILS → ACTION

Get their attention. Show them why they should care. Give them a reason to believe the event is worthwhile. Make the details obvious. Then tell them exactly what to do next.
