Following the potluck, we will screen Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1922), the groundbreaking Danish silent film widely regarded as one of cinema's greatest explorations of witchcraft and superstition. Blending documentary-style history with dramatic reenactments, Häxan examines medieval beliefs about witches while also critiquing the treatment of women accused of witchcraft.

The film's final section draws parallels between historical witch persecutions and the early twentieth-century diagnosis of “hysteria,” highlighting how fear, misunderstanding, and social prejudice have often been used to control women's lives. A brief discussion will follow the screening.
