Marion County Land & Sea Cleanup 2026 (Lake Ocklawaha)
Details
Happy New Year! Central Florida RECON will be joining Girls Who Hike FL, St. Johns Riverkeeper, Marion County Parks and Recreation, Marion County Litter Task Force and other local community members at a multi-site cleanup event in and around the Rodman Dam area of the St John's River.
The event takes place simultaneously at three sites and we have been asked by the organizers to cover the Kenwood Recreation Area in Interlachen. As this event is far beyond our normal range, we will not be bringing our fleet to this cleanup. We will be bringing our normal shoreline equipment including buckets, bags, grabbers and PPE. This will be a shoreline event for RECON and considering the terrain, it may be muddy. If you have waders or boots, please bring them.
As the site has a launch onto Lake Ocklawaha, you are welcome to bring your own boat/paddle craft to the event. However please note that RECON will not be bringing any extra kayak bins, PFDs or paddles to use.
We will be at the site for around three hours including setup and break down. After we finish picking trash, we will weigh it and take a group photo.
As usual, please bring ample water and sun protection with you. There does not appear to be any potable water or bathroom facilities on site. Considering the remoteness of the location, it would be wise to also bring some snacks as well.
We look forward to joining these amazing community partners at the event and hope to see you soon!
