Chalk Scribblers talk collections: Ana Sun & Vanessa Fogg
Details
Mainstream publishers tend to ignore them and far too many potential readers are oblivious to their mere existence but despite the occasional reports of its demise, the short story is a fictional form that remains alive and well and much appreciated by many. We’ll be joined by two authors who published their debut short story collections in the second half of 2025, who will talk about writing and publishing the short story.
Vanessa Fogg is the author of House of Illusionists, published by Interstellar Flight Press. She’s also a former molecular biologist who lives in Michigan and the author of far more short fiction than could be fitted into one collection.
Vanessa will be reading from Wild Ones.

Ana Sun is the author of Futures to Live By, published as part of NewCon Press’s Polestars series. It’s currently on the longlist of nominees for this year’s British Science Fiction Association Awards for best collection and several of Ana’s stories, including Coriander which is in the collection, have been nominated in the short story category. She’s an active member of the Solarpunk community, which is reflected in her fiction, and lives in Sussex.
Ana will be reading from The City Walks Through Me.
Although there is no charge for the session, there is an attendee limit so if you find you can't make it, please remember to change your RSVP so someone else can take your place.
