About us
This group is for those experienced hikers in the New York City (or nearby) area who would like to step out of their comfort zones and take their hiking skills up several notches by embarking on somewhat challenging hikes BUT prefer to do so a leisurely pace with no fear of being left behind.
In this group we firmly believe that a great day of hiking and adventure doesn’t and shouldn’t require a sweat-drenched shirt. Our aim is to host laid-back hikes and adventures and build a social network of hikers who love to hike, being in the outdoors and enjoying scenic views, BUT prefer to do so at a leisurely pace, going at your own pace and taking the time to “smell the roses”. On our hikes, there will be plenty of stops for refreshments and taking in the views, taking the time to savor the sights and sounds of nature, and even hug some trees along the way, and most importantly connect with your fellow hikers and adventurers, all the while with no fear of being left behind.
Hike mileage will range from 6 to 10 miles, over mostly moderate to difficult terrain. On occasions we will do some easy hikes. Fit beginners welcome.
All our hikes will mainly be reachable by public transportation out of New York City … Metro-North, Long Island Railroad, NJ Transit, Amtrak and NYC subway and buses.
To join the group you must have a face picture in your profile.

Hike Mount Beacon
Location not specified yeton the eve of a long holiday weekend call in sick at work and let’s get outside and go hike Mount Beacon reachable on Metro-North out of Grand Central Terminal
***********
IMPORTANT NOTES: This is NOT a beginner hike. Please be honest with your hiking ability before signing up. PLEASE NOTE IT IS A VERY STRENUOUS 4-MILES. WE'LL GO AT SLOW LEISURELY PACE AND WE WILL NOT LEAVE YOU BEHIND. BUT YOU SHOULD STILL BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE HIKE AND COMPLETE THE HIKE WITHOUT ANY ISSUES.
************ABOUT MOUNT BEACON: Yes, the trail up Mount Beacon is steep, but switchbacks keep the workout manageable. The hike actually begins on a staircase following the course of the Beacon Incline Railway, once the world’s steepest funicular. Observation platforms atop the stairs preview the treat rewarding all who reach the summit: a panoramic vista stretching from the Hudson Highlands to the Catskill Mountains. A mile away, climb 60 feet up the South Mount Beacon fire tower for a view that’s even more spectacular — on a clear day, you can see from Manhattan to Albany.
GETTING THERE: Get yourself to Beacon station by 9:11am. You can take Metro-North out of Grand Central Terminal.
AGENDA: We'll do a 4-mile out and back loop. PLEASE NOTE IT IS A VERY STRENUOUS 4-MILES SO BE SURE YOU ARE CAPABLE OF GOING UP AND BACK DOWN.
