Bank Failure Effects on Blockchain Ecosystems with Matthew Plomin
Details
The news has been dominated by Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), a financial institution that had become the go-to bank for nearly half of all venture-backed tech startups. Due to a run on its deposits triggered by central bank-endorsed interest rate hikes amid global inflation surge, SVB was placed into receivership of the FDIC in the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history. Cryptocurrency markets were also effected when USDC, the dollar stable-coin issued by Circle and Coinbase, broke its dollar peg due to a portion of collateral assets being held at SVB.
Join us for a community discussion led by Matthew Plomin, CFA on the implications of this turbulent situation. Matthew is a long-time member of the Champaign Blockchain community and a Chartered Financial Analyst, working for the DWS group in New York City. He is also active in several blockchain projects including stable-coins and equity tokenization.
We will meet in person at the Research Park, ROOM 115 of the Enterprise Works building. Please RSVP your attendance as lunch will be served. We will also have a Zoom link provided in the comments closer to the event for those who can't make it in person.
