April CU Cloud Computing Platform UG Meeting

Details
Join us at noon on April 26, 2019 at EnterpriseWorks for the next Cloud Computing Platform User Group Meeting.
Susan Potter (https://www.linkedin.com/in/susanpotter/) will speak on:
"Dynamically scaling a political news and activism hub (up to 5x the traffic in 20 minutes)"
On any given day DailyKos can receive traffic peaks up to five times our base traffic, sometimes requiring us to scale out to double our backend app server capacity within a 10-20 minutes window (sometimes at unpredictable times). In this talk, Susan Potter will discuss DailyKos's use of autoscaling in EC2 from the essential components to some gotchas learned along the way.
Susan Potter is the Senior Systems Architect at the progressive political news discussion hub, DailyKos, and co-founder of Referential Labs, LLC, a security-focused distributed systems research group. After over 20 years of software development and systems engineering in the application domains of finance, Software-as-a-Service, and application security Susan moved to work at DailyKos where she redesigned and rebuilt atrophying infrastructure with a small team to better respond to DailyKos' dynamic needs, partly using EC2's auto-scaling capabilities.
Please RSVP in Meetup to allow for an accurate count. Lunch will be provided courtesy of the University of Illinois Research Park.
