Beginning Chan Buddhism and Meditation Class

Details

Learn how to meditate and the fundamental concepts of Buddhism. Students are taught the different methods of meditation such as breath counting, mindfulness of the breath, and middle way reality. No prerequisites or fees.

Classes start with an hour of sitting meditation and walking meditation. Still (sitting) meditation helps you learn the basics of meditation and learn to relax your body and mind, letting your mind settle and calm down so that you may rediscover your tranquility. Moving (walking) meditation helps you slow down your mind and body's pace to experience and understand mindfulness in the present moment.

Meditation is followed by a lecture on Buddha’s teachings where you can learn how to incorporate the teachings of Buddhism in your daily life and practice to disentangle and resolve your problems or confusion and create a happy and bright life.

All classes are FREE. Please wear comfortable, modest attire. Anti-skid socks are recommended. Optional meditation clothing may be obtained at the monastery.
The next session of in-person classes at Middle Land Chan Monastery will start August 29th and will consist of 20 classes (term A+ term B). The due date of registration for this term is October 1.
A week before the class starts, we'll send you an email with all the class details.
