CM from the Trenches: 6 Lessons Learned from Years of Coaching Towards Change

Change is about people. Not just individuals, but people interacting within and across organizations, which results in complex, adaptive, open socio-dynamic systems. Many characteristics describing and shaping these systems are in constant flux – not the org chart, but intangibles like individual and collective attitudes, relationships, the distribution of attention, influence and soft power, culture and psychological safety, and of course external constraints and pressures. In these kinds of systems, change is an emergent phenomenon: hard to predict, difficult to manage, and impossible to control.

As a Lean/Agile Coach, Mathias Eifert has guided and nudged individuals and organizations towards change for more than a decade. In this session, he will facilitate a conversation about six key concepts learned from trying to influence and guide change at numerous organizations concerning motivators, goals, and implementation approaches. Mathias Eifert is a coach and Practice Director for Organizational Transformation at Excella. He has twenty years of public and private sector experience consulting organizations on improving their teams, systems, products, and leadership by implementing Lean and Agile concepts. Mathias helps clients discover the power of shortened feedback loops to make sense out of uncertainty, optimize the customer experience, and maximize business value. He is particularly focused on coaching organizations to apply Agile and Lean principles to improve their own practices rather than relying on acquired process frameworks. Mathias has supported clients in a variety of roles, including Agile Coach, ScrumMaster, Solutions Architect, and Business Analyst, and holds numerous professional certifications. He is also a frequent presenter on Agile and Business Analysis topics at national and international conferences.
